Sundara Karma sell out Rescue Rooms

Sundara Karma have been on a stellar rise in the past few months. From the ecstatic shows of Glastonbury and Reading and Leeds, the band are back to prove their worth in a UK tour. They have gained a strong fanbase who share their energetic fervour and lust for life, all from two EPs and a few single releases. All of this, and they are still in their teens, an impressive show of their talent. What makes them stand out from the generic indie boyband is their ability to instant

    Splendour 2016 Review

Splendour 2016 returned to the grounds of Wollaton Park on the 23rd July for the eighth year running, promising a great line-up. The festival was a sell- out with 23,000 spectators turning out for the self- billed family festival. There was glorious weather with not a drop of rain and many festival goers arrived anticipating an excellent day ahead. As well as three music stages, there was a comedy stage and kids area, providing plenty for all the punters attending to enjoy. D

    Dot to Dot!

The annual Dot to Dot festival was a fantastic day giving the opportunity to explore a plethora of quirky venues in Nottingham which were showcasing a wealth of talent. Walking around the town centre on the bank holiday you could feel a buzz in the air, and with the European Archery championships staged in the old town square as well, the streets were saturated with people, many of whom were carrying parts of drum kits and lugging around an assortment of instruments. Early in

    Dot to Dot Preview

Its less than a week  until Dot to Dot returns to Nottingham to  kick off the festival season! Held across almost 60  venues in Nottingham, Bristol and Manchester, the one-day-event showcases a varied line up of established and up-and-coming artists. A joy of D2D is its promotion of local artists by having headliners play all 3 cities while local bands populate the setlist of their respective cities. As previous winner of UK Festival Award for Best Metropolitan Festival, this

We Are Scientists – Rescue Rooms – 25/4/16

We Are Scientists played an incredible set of 18 songs, in a packed Rescue Rooms in Nottingham last Monday night. The indie-rock band, formed in New-York city, has been touring the UK for the release of their fifth album ‘Helter Seltzer.’ Keith Murray, lead singer and guitarist, and Chris Cain, bass guitar and backing vocals have done an insane job on this album and sure know how to pull off a cracker of a gig. Support came from Flowers. This London based band came on stage t

Loss, Nicki Minaj and Yorkshire – an interview with Benjamin Francis Leftwich

After an absence of 2 years Benjamin Francis Leftwich has returned with his much anticipated second album ‘After the Rain’. Chatting before his sold out gig at the Bodega Ben expresses how humbled he is by the reaction he’s received from the fans. He conveys how much his life has changed over the past two years and that ‘people grow up so fast and the way you think about things changes.’ Despite him describing his absence as going away for ‘a sleep for a little while’ he cont

Submotion Orchestra at Rescue Rooms on 30th April 2016 – Preview

Submotion Orchestra’s moody, bass-driven music defies genre – a mixture of avant-garde jazz, house, dubstep and trip hop, the band can in one breath sound like Massive Attack and in the next more like Enya. Over their four albums, the band has continued to increase in popularity due to their consistent musical brilliance and famously good live shows, which is why, when they play the Rescue Rooms this Saturday, it is set to be a spectacular show. Their latest album, ‘Colour Th

Gig Review – Greywind, The Winter Passing, and Moose Blood at Rescue Rooms

Back in Nottingham on their first headlining tour after previously supporting Lower Than Atlantis earlier this year, Moose Blood were supported by Greywind and The Winter Passing and kept a sold out crowd at the city’s Rescue Rooms entertained and on their feet. Confidently taking to the stage on their very first tour (that’s right – their first tour EVER!), freshly-picked, Irish, indie-punk, duo-turned-four piece group Greywind made a stunning opening to the evening. Weezer – White Album Review

It’s no secret that the turn of the century heralded a decline in the quality of Weezer’s discography – songs like “Beverly Hills” didn’t really bring Rivers Cuomo’s perceptive, witty, and above all relatable best to bear. This latest “White Album” is their fourth self-titled studio album and the best of the bunch save their blue-backed debut. This time the record isn’t helmed by one of their production mainstays; the desk isn’t manned by The Cars’ Ric Ocasek, Rick Rubin, nor

The Coral lifted the roof off a sold-out Rescue Rooms

The Coral lifted the roof off a sold-out Rescue Rooms on a triumphant return to the city of Nottingham as their well-publicised return begins to gather momentum. With tickets sold out well in advance, the crowds gathered outside the venue buzzing with anticipation were joined by those begging for any spares and scouring the streets in search of one of the most sought after tickets for this venue in a long time. For those lucky enough to be in attendance, the band did not disa

The Coral – Distance Inbetween – Review

The Coral are not just back – they’re back in a big way. A sold-out tour involving seemingly reinvigorated performances, a bundle of festival appearances lined up across the summer and, in the midst of it all, the release of their first album in two years in ‘Distance Inbetween’. First impressions, this album appears to be good. The more it is listened to however, it becomes deeper than that. This is a fantastically well-crafted collection of music, the songs seemingly intert

Benjamin Francis Leftwich set to mystify the Bodega

In anticipation of his forthcoming second album Benjamin Francis Leftwich headlines the Bodega on the 24th of April. Five years have passed since the release of his debut album ‘Last Smoke before the Snowstorm’. The album that went on to sell 100,000 copies worldwide and has received over 150 million Spotify plays, with ‘Atlas Hands’ and ‘Pictures’ becoming favourites among many. His sound is heavily influenced by artists such as Elliot Smith, Ryan Adams, Sigur Ros and Bruce

Emmy The Great – The Bodega – 12/3/16

Emmy the Great made an appearance at Bodega only a day after the launch of her third album, ‘Second Love.’ Their set consisted majorly of this futuristic, yet moving, album. Emma-Lee Moss, the face of Emmy the Great, was so humble to thank the crowd for their patience listening to ‘unknown’ songs: it is hard to believe this graceful electronic sound will stay unknown for long. This modest attitude came across throughout her set. Several times throughout the gig, Emma introduc

Ady Suleiman proves to be one of Nottingham’s best up-and-comers

Supporting him in his pursuit to make it big in the music industry, Ady Suleiman has most definitely got the backing of his city. Packing out Rescue Rooms, a charged crowd waited in anticipation for the return the city’s emerging talent. Having first seen Ady perform in the tiny Jam Cafe just over a year ago, playing to a crowd of about 40 people, preparing to watch him perform in this setting already felt very different. The staging was simple, blacked out apart from Ady’s n

Preview: Kelvin Jones at Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham

Against hot competition from those dominating the spotlight, solo artist Kelvin Jones is making a splash in the currently over-crowded pool of singer-songwriters in Britain. This Sunday 13th March, he’ll take his husky voice to Nottingham, the supporting act for the well-established James Morrison at his Royal Concert Hall gig. As a venue with a large capacity that few debuts have the opportunity of playing, Jones couldn’t have a better platform for getting his voice heard. T

Ady Suleiman is set to take on Rescue Rooms tonight!

Nottingham’s very own neo-soul singer/songwriter Ady Suleiman is set to take on Rescue Rooms on Wednesday the 2nd of March as part of his headline UK tour. Born in Grantham, the half-Tanzanian, half-English 23 year old has previously supported the likes of Leon Bridges, Lianne Le Havas and Laura Mvula. Having picked up Gilles Peterson’s ‘Breakthrough Act of 2014’ at the Worldwide awards and working alongside Chance The Rapper, Ady Suleiman is set to explode onto the music sce

C Duncan Hits The Bodega This Wednesday

C Duncan released his sparkling debut, ‘Architect’, last summer to widespread critical acclaim, culminating in a nomination for the Mercury Prize Album of the Year. Aptly described by critics as “magical”, his haunting folk beautifully melds church-like choral sections with baroque guitar lines and yearning lyrics. His music is composed of layers, each song is written like an orchestral piece built of numerous sounds that intertwine and weave around each other, before reachin
