Interview with The RPMs

Straight off the back of a string of summer gigs and festivals up and down the country, The RPMs are back and all revved up with a chunkier and funkier sound than before. They have announced a new batch of Autumn and Winter dates in support of their forthcoming single recorded with Gethin Pearson, a talented and creative producer, mixer and songwriter from Wales who has worked with many new artists, notably Mallory Knox whose single this year ‘Giving It Up’ received its premiere as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record on Radio and more recently To Kill A King. We got to know them ahead of their tour.

How did the RPMs form?

Jack and Callum moved to sunny Brighton where they met Miguel. After being a 3 piece for a few years, the band decided to add keys (Chris Bowden) to the mix and an additional guitarist (Ollie Summers). Ever since we’ve been writing and gigging non stop!

Is there a story behind your name?

It comes from our love of Vinyl

Who would you say have been The RPMs’ biggest influences as a band?

MGMT, Happy Mondays, Tame Impala and Night Cars

Would you say you prefer being in the studio recording new material or playing live shows?

Playing live! Being In the studio Is fun and we have room for creativity and trying new things out, but there’s no better feeling then walking onto a stage!

What was the first music festival you went to – as a fan or indeed as a band?

Glastonbury! Both as a fan and playing

Do you have a favourite venue/city to play live? (They don’t have to be the same!)

Brighton! We’re playing the Hope and Ruin on the 7th of December which is one of our favourite venues in Brighton

If you had to only play festivals or headline sets for the rest of your career, which would you prefer?

Festivals. So much more people, music and food!

Do you have a favourite song to play live?

Your Ghost

What are your ambitions as a band for the future?

Tour the world, make music, bring people together

And finally… If you could have written one song in history yourself, what would you have

  preferred it to be?

There She Goes by The La’s
